Did you have fun at the Luau birthday party yesterday? I know Barbara and all the others had a great time and I got some great pictures too. I'm going to have fun putting the pictures I took on the photo page I made.

I think I'm going to have to figure out how to put one of my moose on that hammock. : )

I found the paper with the drinks on it at A.C. Moore in the single sheet section but I couldn't find a name on it. Some of the drinks have glitter on them. You know me and glitter. : ) The stickers are more from Sandylion and the dollar rack but I added Stickle glitter to the sunset on the hammock picture and glitter Mod Podge to some of the other stickers to give them an extra little shine. It's going to be so much fun to put my pictures on this layout.

Thanks for joining Barbara's 50th Birthday Luau these past three days and instead of saying good-bye, let's say...

Aloha for now and hop on over to see Cindy

Aloha and welcome to my Luau Blog Hop. Yesterday you were invited to come to a luau and now today you are invited to relax and do the hula with a moose.

I love MOOSE so when I found this adorable hula moose, I just knew he had to become part of my decorations for my Luau blog hop. I used a brick red stamp to give him a light sunburn and I used my Bic markers to color his antlers, lai,and grass skirt.

The moose, flowers, and letters are all svg files and ttf files. The moose was designed by Mary over at Mary's (more or less) and the hibiscus flowers on the letters came from a Luau set I bought at SVG Attic and the letters are one of my ttf files. I cut everything at 8 inches.

I was going to make this a garland but I love using Blu-Tack to hang things up. I found Blu-Tack back in my college days when you weren't allowed to poke holes in the walls. It works on semi-gloss and glossy walls without leaving permanent marks when you remove it.

Here is a close up of the letters. The paper stack is Mimosa by s.e.i.

Did you get your invite to the Luau? Oh my, I think I misplaced it, with the earthquake and Hurricane Irene, I have been so forgetful. Let me look... Oh, here it is.
I used Sure Cuts a Lot and the SVG file "Luau" from SVG Attic for the front of this three fold card. I used my Bic markers for accenting and glitter Mod Podge for the coconuts.

The Hawaiian shirt is from a sticker set by Sandylion of which I used clear Mod Podge on. I usually would use stamps to put the info on the inside of the card but I couldn't find my invitation stamp so I just printed it out on my printer.

I hope you can make our Luau party for the next three days. There will be wonderful new things (all Luau and birthday related) to see each day and don't forget that wonderful give away that Barbara has in store for some lucky people.

Aloha for now and hop on over to see Cyndie

Mistakes Can Be Fixed

Today my son is an official "tween." It seems like he was just born yesterday. The years have gone by so fast. Luckily, he still loves to give and get hugs and hang out with his family. He's a computer nerd like his mommy and daddy and wants carrot cake for his birthday (which is his Grandma's and mom's favorite cake too). Happy birthday James!

I made this card a long time ago and shoved it into a drawer. I was working with some paper punch and ruined the tip of the heart. I ran across it again the other day and thought, "I wonder if I can do something with my Stickles to make it look decent?" Yes, it worked. Now it looks like I added the Stickles to the tip on purpose to give it some glitter. This proves that mistakes can be fixed when it some to paper crafting (or at least sometimes).

The red dots on the heart are just the $1 glitter glue bottles.

Hope you have a wonderful Thursday! Now go, craft and eat carrot cake. : )

New Card, New Card

I would like to announce the winner of my "29 again" blog hop give away.  Drum roll please...
Janet from http://ladyluvbug.blogspot.com/  Congratulations Janet and check out her site. She is one crafty person. ; )

When I was out here in Virginia from January through April, a good friend send me a lovely little photo card. I'm back out here in Virginia and I found that card and thought it would be nice to change it and send it back to the person who sent it to me. I cut the front off, sanded it some, added Mod Podge and let it dry, then I rubbed a light reddish brown ink pad on it and rubbed it off. It turned a nice black and white photo into an AGED looking black and white photo.

I also used sandpaper on the edges of the black card stock to given it a worn look as well.

Bday Card using my Eclips

I couldn't get this post up any later could I? It's been an interesting day here. First, my daughter had a birthday party to go to so I got up this morning and made a quick card which I will share in a minute. Next, I decided to go to the party and take pictures and finally, just as I went to leave the (pool) birthday party we had an earthquake. My first one ever!

The quake took up all my afternoon watching the T.V. to make sure we were not going to be evacuated since we are less then 40 miles from the epicenter. We're all safe and sound and no evacuations.

I broke out one of my new cartridges for my Sizzix Eclips. I bought the machine and I refuse to get anymore cartridges then the ones I just bought and the one that came with it - total 5. The machine is suppose to become compatible with Sure Cuts A Lot in October and that's what I bought it for. I have hundreds of SVG files and prefer  to use them over cartridges. It's easier to organize them into files and find them on my laptop.

Here is the card - plain and simple since I ran out of time making it. I'm still figuring out the Eclips. It has things set up differently on it compared to my Expression.

The cartridge I used for the card is Woodland Creatures and Deer Me Alphabet. I wanted different alphabets for this machine because I think it does a better job at cutting little letters than the Cricut Expression. My daughter picked out the little fox from this cartridge and I used a frame as the card from the cartridge: Starter and Rockin' Janie. The frame size is a width of 5 1/2 inches folded in half.

I grabbed some of my buttons and sewed some thread through them because I really don't like leaving them plain. Just a me thing. I put the pink hart on a Sticky Doo so it's raised and then I slid the other buttons under it.

I used stamps from the set "Take the Cake" from Pink by Design.

I would have made this a lot more fancy with ribbon and such but just ran out of time. The little girl that it was for loved it and that's all that counts.

And our blog participants will also have blog candy along the way, so be sure to comment on all of the blogs..

Happy 29th birthday to you at any age. Isn't it fun to stay 29 forever!?! I took that thought and turned it into a fun card.
This card only has a front side but it has a lot going on for one side.  I used DCWV for the paper with a shiny background for the letters but thought it needed more so I got out my Bic markers and colored the white part of the letters in as well as the candles and chocolate frosting on the cake.

I used Stickle's glitter glue for my flames and Liquid Pearls to outline the cake. I gently stamped brown and purple on my cake and dish to give it it's speckled look.

The bow was a project in itself. I braided ribbon, strung it through the top of the card, glued it down, then when it was dry I went back and took out the ends of the braids and trimmed them to the length I thought they looked best.

Thanks for taking the time to look and now you can continue on your "29? Again" blog hop but first go below and see what to do to get in on the fabulous blog candy give away.

Mod Podge flowers

Good Friday evening. I've been missing in action most of the week due to a sick child and another in afternoon summer camp. Whole day summercamp is a mother's dream but a half day leaves you no time to do much of anything except shop. If you know me, you know I LOVE to shop especially for scrap booking stuff but I had so much to do at home that it was a little of a pain and now the boy wants to go back again next week for half days.  We'll see????

I wanted a layout for our anniversary a year ago (It's taken me that long to scrap the pictures.) that was feminine yet mescaline. I was going to use hearts but thought that was too feminine so I tried the flowers and just kept working with them.

I discovered the other night that when you paint Mod Podge on fabric designed paper, it makes the paper look like real fabric up close. It was hard to get a good picture to prove it but take my word for it, it does.

I used Stickle's glitter glue to outline each flower. I maybe could have added a brad instead of more of the glitter but that great idea came to me after I had put the glitter in the middle and piled it on so it was tough to jam a brad through. Yes, I have a crop-a-dile but that's back in Tucson. It's hard crafting in two different places. haha

I stated earlier that I didn't want it to look too feminine so I added some paper strips I cut up and layered next to my husband's picture. My husband even liked the layout and that's good since he could care less about my passion for scrapbooking. Now if it was computers.....

I couldn't think of anything romantic to say for my journaling so it is something plain. That's what happens when you wait a year to scrap your photos. The letters are cut out with my Cricut.

Have a great weekend and I'll see you on the29 again blog hop on Monday. : )Lorby

Glitter Stamping

Awhile back I bought the Martha Stewart glitter stamping kit to try out. I have done the glitter stamping in the past and have liked it but I couldn't find anything to really clean the stamps when I was done. I have found better things now but nothing super duper. If anyone has done this and found a good solvent, please comment and let me know.

I started by doing the butterflies from the stamps that came with the kit and then I used my Cricut to cut the card front with the pop out butterflies.

I really think this card is pretty and want to continue doing this kind of art work. I am a glitter nut!

Here are some of the things that come in the kit. I like the stamps and the different sizes they come in.

First Time Scrapper - Tasha

The winner of the Surprise Birthday Blog Hop for Deborah is Liz from Lizscraps. Congratulations to you and thank you to all who came, looked and liked my blog during the blog hop.

I invited my neighbor over last night to do a late night scrap. She had never done a scrap book layout before. I have to say her creation turned out absolutely adorable.

I think she's a natural. I explained about how to group pictures and pick out paper that matches something in the picture and off she ran.... I came up with the words "splish splash" but she picked out the boarder for her pictures and told me she wanted frogs. Good choice, don't you think?

I used DonJaun for the letters and Paisley for the frogs. She didn't want all the layers because she's going to journal on them.

Now Let's get this party started!!

Happy birthday Deborah! Here's a card, made with love, just for you. Enjoy!

I used the file "A2 Card for All Occasions" from SVGcuts and my Cricut to cut out the birdcage. I found a cute little bird svg I had living in my svg files folder and the flowers are from the "3D Flowers" from SVGcuts as well. I was told Deborah's favorite colors are brown, yellow and pink and she likes polka dots so I tried to incorporate that into my design. The birdcage has shimmer mist in silver on it and I used a white ink pad from ColorBox to add a little something in the background. I coated my bird with Inkssentials Glossy Accents.

Hey visiting friends...before you hop on to the next blog, go below and leave me a comment (A must for the drawing.) and start following me (This part is optional but I would like it if you did.) to enter a blog candy give away I'm having. I'll pick a winner when this blog hop has come to an end. This picture doesn't due the birdhouse justice and I'll post a better one this afternoon. I was working with night vision.

Eclips - Expression 1

Today I did some comparing with my Eclips and Expression machines. I used cheap thin scrap paper and cut letters at 1/2 inch. I cut out the word "again" in lowercase. The Eclips was able to cut them perfectly with no paper ripping. Even the dot for the "i" turned out. I thought I needed to be fair so I used a very used mat with not a lot of stick to it and still perfect with no rips. I love my Cricut Expressions for all the wonderful cartridges they have but have never been happy with how it cuts letters. They almost always are ripped, no matter what paper I use, unless I set them 1 inch or larger depending on how much detail is in the letters. So the verdict so far is, Cricut wins for their cartridges and selection and is great for cutting things without a lot of small detail and better quality or thicker paper and the Eclips wins for cutting tiny things and detailed things on any type of paper. Not that good of a selection in the cartridges when it comes to the Eclips all the cartridges are $24.99 (on sale) or above so no deal there. *Note: You can find cartridges for the Cricut expression under $20 or around $20 at times but their newest releases are around $40 on up.

bday waterfall

I made a waterfall birthday card yesterday and decided to make a video about it. It was too noisy last night with the kids so I tried to re-do it this morning and now the sound won't work on my camera. Grrrr. I used a cheap hand held I have that I bought for my son to video.

Here is my video of the waterfall birthday card. I used SVGcuts waterfall card set, Sure Cuts a Lot, my Cricut and new Eclips machines. Sorry for the poor and I mean poor quality.

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Today I fought a headache but even with that was able to get two birthday cards done. One I'll share today and the other tomorrow.  The first one is my girlie party dress birthday card. I used the Cricut cartridge Groovy Wanderings to make it.

I love the paper I used for this card but have to be honest and I'm not for sure where I got it. It's loose paper so I am thinking it came from Oriental Trading but not for sure. It's a nice quality too and cuts nice on my Cricut.

I love dollar bins and clearance bins. The button, flowers and brads were in the same package for $1.00 at Michaels.

Above is what is written on the inside of the card and the picture was taken going in the right direction but every time I uploaded it to my blog it would go up and down and I couldn't figure a way to change it around so I finally gave up. You can still read it, I hope.
