For my second project and since I love to make rosettes, I made a special banner for the birthday girl.

I took the picture before I strung it because it's so hard to get the whole banner once it's strung. I used the SVG Attic file Mad Tea Party Kit for my rosettes and letters.

The adorable teapot and teacup also came from the set.

I used glitter glue for my tea pouring out from the teapot. This is a very special banner since it's heading to a very special lady for her 60th birthday and the fun thing is she can keep it up all year long because we all love tea time anytime.

Good Monday Morning

I've taken another popular file the Fun Favors SVG File  and turned one of the boxes into a Valentine's box just by doing the simplest of things. There are four boxes in this file and one is a milk carton box with a round viewing window.

I replaced the round viewing window with the heart shape from the Valentine Cupcake Wrapper SVG Collection. This can be done in Sure Cuts a Lot for your die cutting machine.

I kept my round hole in the box and placed the heart over top of it so that way I could make the heart the same size as the hole. Once the heart was the size of the hole I un-grouped the box, deleted the circle and put the heart in it's place then I re-grouped the set.

I can't wait to fill this little box with goodies to give my Valentine.

 Gung Hay Fat Choy means "Best wishes and Congratulations

Welcome back to our celebration. Yesterday I showed how we decorated and the food we prepare and eat but today I will continue our celebration.

When we are done eating, everyone is given a fortune cookie to open, read their fortune and eat.

Here is some Wikipedia history of the fortune cookie...Fortune cookies are often served as a dessert in Chinese restaurants in the United States and some other countries, but are absent in China. The exact provenance of fortune cookies is unclear, though various immigrant groups in California claim to have popularized them in the early 20th century, basing their recipe on a traditional Japanese cracker. Fortune cookies have been summarized as being "introduced by the Japanese, popularized by the Chinese, but ultimately ... consumed by Americans."

 Once the cookies have been consumed, the elder, which was me because daddy was away on business, hands out red envelopes called hong bao or lai see to the children. Each pack has money in it, usually a dollar at our house. The red envelope represents good luck. The amount of money should end in an even number to bring good luck but should never have a four in it such as 40 cents because the number 4's pronunciation is similar to the word pronunciation for death.

 I used Inkscape to make the red envelopes for the children and the children saw what I was making and asked if they could decorate them. The lines and stars represent firecrackers being lit off.

 Finally, we end the night by handing out candy filled poppers. It's illegal to light off fireworks in Tucson so we stick to the poppers. I used the New Years Party file from SVG attic to make my poppers.

Then the children and I curl up in a chair to read a book dealing with something Chinese. The kid's favorite book is "The Seven Chinese Sisters."

Since it is the Year of the Dragon, I had to make this card because I love this stamp and have been wanting to use it since I bought it from a friend.

Last bit of info...The Drangon Dance is done to bring good luck and prosperity for the coming year.

Thank you so much for celebrating with us this year. I love to have company visit and share in our traditions and it's always fun to break out of the mold and share a tradition that is of another culture.

I am not Chinese but we love to celebrate this holiday at our house. I began celebrating it about four years ago when I organized a moms' play group and even though the group is no more we still continue to celebrate it.

Cleaning the house is part of the preparation for Chinese New Year and this gives me a good excuse to get my children to help clean. In preparation of our Chinese dinner this year, we finally took down our Christmas tree and Christmas decorations.

Once the house is clean, I decorate with Chinese paper lanterns that I designed in Inscape and the children decorated after I cut them out using my Sizzix eClips.

Red is used in decorations for good luck.

I try to make Chinese food but some of my food turns out to be Japanese since we like both food types. Food served during the new year celebration represents health, abundance and luck. I'm not for sure if my food represents any of those things but I know it does represent yummy.

 The sticky buns (sweet pastry filled with bbq pork) was bought but I made the chicken fried rice and egg drop soup from scratch. I would post the recipes but I've been doing them for awhile and sort of just add this and that now so I don't follow a recipe any longer.
