Owls baby shower invies

I have a close friend who is expecting a baby in the near future and I volunteered to do the baby shower invites. Her theme is owls and so my hunt began. I found so many adorable owls but was looking for a specific pair. I thought I had finally found the best I could when I came across the file "Give a Hoot" over at SVG Attic

Take a look at how cute these little invites turned out:

Thanks for visiting my world today.

God Bless American - 9/11/2001 Remebered

Welcome to a blog hop devoted to the remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11th. There are ten of us blog friends who have joined talents to bring you our own special ways of remembering the day that changed the United States of America and the rest of the World forever.

If you have happened here by chance, please continue on to Tami our hostess and the beginning of this very special and personal blog hop.

"Exhibit 13" is the last song on the Blue Man Group's album The Complex. The song's title comes from a scorched piece of paper which blew into the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York on September 11, 2001 immediately after the attacks on the World Trade Center. The audio inter-cut, in the song, is a recitation of the contents of other documents found in that same park. (Wikipedia) Please click on and listen to the video as you scroll through this blog that remembers those who died on 9/11 - 10 years ago today.

We will never forget!
Where were you on 9/11?

I wanted to use a white background to make the pictures stand out and then the blue inked boarder and red inked background with the red photo frames just happened and it looked better having all three of the colors that stand for America.

I picked the colored paper because as I stared at the pictures from that awful day, drab colors kept entering my mind. Drab colors that looked like the buildings as they became rubble and a bare space on the ground left by a plane.

Here is what I typed up in the middle of my layout.

My layout is a history for my children and my great-grand children and hopefully my great-great grandchildren.

God bless American.

If you get lost along the way, here is the lineup:

Let's Celebrate Grandparents

Grandparents day is celebrated September 11 of 2011 and I have been invited by Bobbie Jo at Sweet Sassy Diva to create something special for this special holiday.

I love mini-picture frames and making the fancy mats that go in them so I decided to work with this. I thought back to my grandmother and how she meant so much to me and was such a colorful person and that's when everything fell into place.

I used a 4 x 6 inch frame and cardstock from two different pads: DCWV Cotton Bloom Stack and s.e.i's Mimosa's stack. The neon green that I used for the shadowing of the flourish and the word "Grandma" is plain cardstock from Recollections.

I used my wonderful Gypsy for all my pieces. The word "Grandma" and it's shadow come from Gypsy Font. I did the shadow first and KE'd it at -12 and then went back and took the shadow effect off and didn't KE it.

I've found that using a tweezers and quick dry glue are the way to go when putting the letters on the shadow.
I used Accent Essentials for my flourish and mat. The mat will hold a 2 x 3 inch photo leaving a nice little frame.

The inches are wrong for the mat in the picture. I had to unlink them and set the width at 3.50 inches and the height at 2.50 inches.
The flourish and it's shadow were done at 1.50 inches for height and I kept the measurements linked.

The stamp "You're simply the Best!" comes from Inkadinkado's Kathy Davis designs #97608 and I used the olive green ink from ColorBox Petal Point Classic Pigment inkpad #08013 - Provence. I inked the mat, and shadows for Grandma and the flourish. I finally used a la mode clear embossing powder on my words.

It's back to school time

Good morning everyone. I hope you're having a good week. I've been busy with getting kids back to school and home schooling my eldest. I saw a challenge entitled "Friends" over at My Craft Spot and thought I would throw my hat into the ring. I've never done a challenge before so this is exciting and new for me.

I just love the bright colors of this A2 card. I used paper from the DCWV Cotton Bloom stack and s.e.i Mimosa stack plus some neon green card stock from Recollections. I'll let you guess what part of the card is the Recollections paper and finally, I used a scrap of opalescence yellow for the flowers.

I put my Gypsy and Cricut Expressions to work cutting out the tag for the saying and the flowers - cartridge used: Mother's Day 2010. I cut the sentiment area at 2.5 inches for height and the flowers are with stem at 2.25 inches and the flowers to go on top at 1.50 inches. I then got out my Bic markers and got to doing some crazy decorating.

I used my Inkadinkado clear stamps #97608 for the sentiment  in green and embossed it with a la mode clear embossing powder. I used the green ink also around the edges and the ink is my favorite ink: Colorbox.

This little card is going for a trip in the next few days to a very special friend back in Tucson. I hope she enjoys it.

I'm feeling like a princess

I am so excited.  Lynne over at Her Craftiness invited me to be her guest designer today. She and I met not to long ago through our blog hopping fondness and have found we have lots in common and have become fast friends. I'm hoping that some day we'll even get to meet face to face. Wouldn't that be cool!

I threw a Princes Back to School Party for my daughter and some of her friends and wanted to share some of the things I made for the party.
I used my "Once Upon a Princess" Cricut cartridge for all the party needs except the sand art.

First came the invites. I used the invitation and the castle from the cartridge. I thought it would be a nice touch to have the castle stand up when you opened the card so I cut a strip of paper and put four equal creases in the strip. I attached the castle to one section and glued the two other sections to the card. I will have to make a video to show how I did this or I'll be trying to explain into tomorrow's blog. I printed the info for the party out and pasted it in the card. I bought a brayer awhile ago and have found so many crafty uses for it. I used it to roll the paper with the party information onto the card. I have used my hand in the past but you end up with bubbles - not when you use a brayer.

Next came the goodie boxes which are simple but cute boxes with a bow cut out from the cartridge. I did the boxes in purple and the bows in pink with glitter accents.
The foamies are adorable little touches that don't cost a lot of money and can be bought at Michaels, Joann's or even a Dollar Tree.

I discovered a secret for pressing the glued inside of the box together that doesn't require trying to fit your hand inside a small box. 1) the metal ruler shown above or 2) the bone used for creasing cards.

Onto the crowns now...I decided to use patterned paper taken from my Me & My Big Ideas paper book and I was going to decorate it myself when I got the brilliant idea of buying glitter glue and letter the girls go to work. The crowns are way more beautiful than I ever could have done.
I let the girls do sand art. These are a fun activity that I've done before at parties. You can get a bag of around 40 from Oriental Trading.

And finally we ate carriage cake and if you want to know the whole story about that - check out yesterdays blog and be ready to laugh. : )

Happy back to school all you princesses and princes and Queen Mommies and King Daddies.

A BIG BIG thank you to Lynne for letting me be a guest on her awesome site: Her Craftiness

Carriage Cake Gone Bad

I love making cakes and cupcakes and have even taken a cake decorating class and bought all the fancy tips to make myself think that I could get good at this but reality is starting to set in. No matter what cake I make, something always goes wrong - be it the frosting or the cake itself. Take my princess carriage cake for example...

I'm not talking about the monkey face on the cake but that's a problem too my daughter (whom the party was for) pointed out to me. I am talking about the back wheel to the carriage. No I hadn't taken a bite out of it.

I sprayed the pan with one of those flour mixed into the spray sprays but didn't spray the sides of the wheel area in the pan because I didn't think I needed to spray the sides if I got a good coating on the bottom. Guess what? I was wrong. The body of the carriage came out but the wheels stayed behind. The front wheel came out with a slight pull around the edge of the pan while the back wheel fought me to the end and came out in pieces.

I put the jigsaw carriage cake back together as well as can be expected and went at it with frosting hoping to disguise my flaws. Nope didn't work. I ran out of time and had to use store bought frosting that was thin and sort of blobbed as I tried to star it on and then I gave up and just started squeezing.

When I got done, I just stood there staring at it and wondering what to do next. That's when my 12 year old son came up, looked at it and said, "It must have been midnight?" I asked what he was talking about and he said the carriage must be turning back into a pumpkin because it was starting to fall apart and if it wasn't midnight yet, then the carriage must have hit a rock. Thank you son for giving me my excuse.

I think I'll stick to paper crafting or at least until I need another cake for something.

Here's a picture of the cake before my attempt at frosting it.

Happy Birthday Susan from Lorby's World.

I decided on a mini photo book. This little book measures 6 x 6. It's small enough to carry in your purse and use as a brag book.

Glitter was my friend as usual and I used it to write out Happy Birthday. It's dollar bin glitter but I still love it.

All the embellishments are 3D K&CoMPANY flowers and butterflies.
I had to show a close up of the Happy Birthday just because I love the way it sparkles.

The inside pages are smaller than the outside covers. The inside pages measure 5 x 4.25. I spritzed Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angles in colors: sugar maple, apple, and star fish with a blue patina on some of the pages. I didn't like the way the mist was blotching at first but the more I did it the more I thought it added to the beauty of the album.

Here are a few close ups of the embellishments.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the hop and I would like to take this moment to wish Susan one last happy birthday from me.

Now hop on over to Linda's blog to see what creative birthday thing she's made and don't forget about the drawing from our wonderful sponsors. I would like it if you started following me but I promise not to drag you into my world if you don't. : )
