The past four years I have invited friends over to do Christmas crafting with me. It's sort of a tradition now that the night begins with the making of a pair of earrings. We've made snowmen, angels and this year bows.

 Then we made cards, tags, felt ornaments and a decorated a box...

but the most fun but also the hardest project we did was make these snowflake ornaments. I was surfing the web the night before and came across a video on how to do them. I tried one and it seemed easy enough until I had to explain it to others. I kept holding the paper wrong when I would cut it so it would always be cut at a wrong angle. Everyone jumped in and with laughter in the air, we were able to figure it out. Here are two of them.

I decided to try my hand making my own SVG cupcake birthday card file and this is what I came up with. What do you think? I layered it as you can see and added some red glitter glue to my cherry on top.

I'm the last on the list so now you can go celebrate and eat a cupcake. Yum!

Last year I started a tradition of taking baked goods around to the neighbors on Christmas morning. My mother-in-law taught me how to make scones a few years ago so I make scones as my neighborhood gift now.
This year I have taken the gingerbread man from the file "Cookies For Santa" and I have modified him so to become a recipe holder. Directions on how to make him are at the end of the pictures.

 I have little slits to stick the 3 x 5 notecards in.

 This is a side view so you understand how he can lay flat.

The cards can store behind him as you put him away in his envelope.

Directions

Gingerbread Man
cut out gingerbread man at w: 11.790 by H: 7.099

Make a circle cut at .075 in and fold in half. You can use one of the shapes from the Sure Cuts A Lot pre programmed forms.

Fold the circle in half and place it and trace it where you will use an x-acto knife to cut the rounded slits to hold your recipes.

Easel Stand
Cut cardstock into a 2 x 8 in strip and crease in at 1 inch on each end and then 3 more inches from 1 inch line. Crease 3 inch area in half (1 1/2 in) and that makes easel stand.

Christmas Cards and Cookies Blog Hop

 Welcome to Round Two of the Christmas Cards & Cookies Blog Hop!  You should have come from Lynda B-J's blog.  If you are starting here and wish to hop from the beginning of the hop, please visit Dena’s blog . There was so much response to the Christmas Cards & Cookies Blog Hop that it had to be split between two weekends.  Round One was held last weekend.  Round Two is this weekend, beginning on Saturday, Dec. 10th, through Sunday, Dec. 11th.  We have a talented group of women who love papercrafting and baking.  Each of them is sharing a recipe for a yummy Christmas treat along with a Christmas card or tag. Hopefully, you’ll pick up some great ideas for your own Christmas gift giving this season.  So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and enjoy!

Simple Scone and Cranberry-Orange Jelly Recipe

My mother-in-law introduced me to homemade scones a few years back. They aren't hard like the ones you get at the coffee shop and the homemade ones have much better flavor especially if you add my sauce to them.

I have to admit that I found this recipe on Allrecipes.com awhile back and I like it better than any I have found in the cook books I have and I have lots and lots of cook books. ; )

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour 1/3 cup sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt

8 tablespoons unsalted butter, frozen 1/2 cup raisins (or dried currants) 1/2 cup sour cream 1 large egg

Directions:

1.	Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2.	In a medium bowl, mix flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Grate butter into flour mixture on the large holes of a box grater; use your fingers to work in butter (mixture should resemble coarse meal), then stir in raisins.
3.	In a small bowl, whisk sour cream and egg until smooth.
4.	Using a fork, stir sour cream mixture into flour mixture until large dough clumps form. Use your hands to press the dough against the bowl into a ball. (The dough will be sticky in places, and there may not seem to be enough liquid at first, but as you press, the dough will come together.)
5.	Place on a lightly floured surface and pat into a 7- to 8-inch circle about 3/4-inch thick. Sprinkle with remaining 1 tsp. of sugar. Use a sharp knife to cut into 8 triangles; place on a cookie sheet (preferably lined with parchment paper), about 1 inch apart. Bake until golden, about 15 to 17 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes and serve warm or at room temperature.

Footnote: I read that it is better to use your stand mixer, if you have one, to kneed in the butter and raisins and I do have to agree but if you don't have a stand mixer you can use your God given mixer - your hands.

Cranberry/Orange Zest Sauce

1 can cranberries ( not the jellied ones)

1 medium orange, zested

1/2 cup sugar (put a few Tablespoons to the side to dust tops of scones with)

1 cinnamon stick

Combine all ingredients in a pan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.

Serve hot or cold over scones

Here is today's project:

I made this adorable ornament gift bag using the file "Holiday Cheer Gift Boxes." The wreath on the outside came from the file "All the Trimmings."

I handmade some ornaments to go inside.

Now my story...

I have lived in Tucson, AZ for the past 7 years. I felt like a fish out of water until I had my youngest two children and joined a mom's play group. I became very close to the moms in the group and even now that our children are in different schools we are still very close and get together on weekends with the kids and during the summer.

I started, while in the mom's group, having Christmas get togethers just for the moms at my house. Each year we would get together to make jewelry or crafts. I am doing this again this weekend but with a heavy heart. My hubby took a job in Austin, TX and we'll be moving there in the near future. I would usually be packed up and out the door before my husband knew what was going on but this time it is so hard to go since I have become so close to these ladies. I will miss them dearly. 

Tomorrow at our Mom's Night In I will be having drawings for various crafty things and my special bag and ornaments will be going home with one of my very close and dear friends.

Bread Basket into Cookie Basket

Good Monday Morning....
This past Friday my daughter celebrated her birthday with her class by having mom bring in a treat. I made raspberry chocolate chip cookies and then I decided I needed something fancy to deliver them so I warmed up the computer and the eClips and opened up my SVG Attic file and found the perfect thing.

I used the bread box from Holly's Holiday Boxes which you can buy at SVG Attic. Didn't this bread box turn into the perfect cookie box? My daughter and all the little girls in her class loved it.
